STEPHA AND MIKE – THE DAY…(photos by ewan)

Ever since she was a little girl she would set an alarm on her birthday. And in the wee hours, 4:35am to be exact, she would wake up to the buzzing. And wish herself a happy birthday. Making a wish to meet a prince who would sweep her off her feet. As a little girl she really did dream of a prince. Castle. Crown. And a white horse. But as she grew older the visions changed into a man who could make her smile. Loved her. Both while still sweeping her off her feet. Stepha met her prince on February 6th, 2007.

That morning as she wished for her prince to find her, she hoped this year it really would happen. She was supposed to go out with her room mate for dinner to celebrate her birthday. Quiet and low key. But somehow co-workers joined in and she found herself at a table with Mike. He didn’t say a word but couldn’t take his eyes off of her. After finding his courage, Mike finally worked up the courage to ask Stepha out. Without thinking she said yes. And then panicked. She didn’t even know his name. Wasn’t looking for a relationship. And was moving for work in just a few months. What had she gotten herself into?

When their first date rolled around, Stepha thought she might throw up. She changed her outfit a dozen times. Paced back and forth around her apartment. And then changed some more. The nerves quickly fell away as she answered the door to the sweetest smile she had ever seen and neither of them wanted to night to end. Still leaving for work, Stepha didn’t want to get into a relationship and told Mike that she just wanted to be friends. The next morning when he sent her a text saying he had an amazing time, she couldn’t deny it. She had too. And she wanted to see Mike again. Right away. She told herself that if she saw him at work she was going to ask him out. That night she got on the elevator and pressed the 4th floor button. Just like in a movie, the doors open and Mike was standing there. With the same sweet smile on his face. And they both asked each other out at the exact same time. Stepha had met her prince and was ready to start her fairy tale.
