After picking up Maranda’s engagement ring Moe couldn’t keep the secret any longer. Not even a day. An hour. A minute. He had to tell her right then and there. Not actually propose yet, just let her know that the ring had been purchased. He had to share the secret.
The months that followed were torturous. To Moe, trying to figure out exactly how to propose. And to Maranda, waiting. Expecting it to happen at any moment. Always waiting excitedly. As much as Moe wanted to surprise her, he couldn’t figure out how to catch her off guard and catch her at a moment that she didn’t expect at all. And so they waited.
Finally one day it hit him. Moe knew that the only time of day that Maranda wasn’t thinking about the proposal was while she was sleeping. Maybe dreaming about it, but definitely not expecting anything to happen. So that morning at 3:30am Moe woke up. Quietly slipped into his black suit. Black tie. Cuff links. And black socks (but no shoes to make sure he didn’t wake her too soon). He washed his face. Brushed his teeth. And filled the entire room with lit candles. Then getting down on one knee beside the bed Moe nudged Maranda awake. As she stared at him confused he asked the question they had both been waiting to her. And she was totally, completely surprised. Just as they both had hoped.
