My thirty in thirty series wouldn’t be complete without a post on the StarWars blanket. If our house was on fire this would be one of the things I would run back inside for. It’s my comfort when I’m sick. Warmth when it’s snowing in May (yes that just happened). It’s one of my favourite things on the entire planet.
Way back when in first year University, Ewan and I started dating. One of the first times I went to his house for dinner I noticed it. Most guys would hide away something like a StarWars blanket when they were having a girl over. But not Ewan. It was prominently displayed. With love. With pride. It was one of his favourite things too.
Even though it was originally Ewan’s prized item, I quickly adopted it. I would spend 10 hours a day wrapped in it studying for exams. We would drag it out into the back yard to take a break and enjoy the Spring air. Or snuggle underneath on cold winter days where we didn’t want to go to 8am class. Once babies came, they too adopted it. Having naps on it. Picnics on it. Movie nights wrapped in it. It’s the designated ‘sick’ blanket in our house. And Salty spend his last few days snuggled up safely inside it. Our history has been lived around this item. It’s part of our family.
I know it might seem silly. Like it’s just a blanket. But something that brings so much comfort, love and togetherness to our family is something special in my books. 10 years later and it’s still one of my favourite things in the whole world. And I hope it holds up long enough to be passed down to our kid’s kids. That StarWars blanket is pretty darn special.
