I realize that new years is only a day. The ripping off of the page on my desk calendar. A new year written behind the month and day. No different than the day before. But for some reason this year it seems so profound to me. As if all 365 days prior this year have led up to this one. A new start.

2012 was an interesting year. There was some bad. Family loss. Illness. More loss. And some more illness. I started avoiding my phone as the year came to a close because I was afraid of any more bad news. It’s been tiring.

But the good far outweighed the bad. A new studio. Our youngest daughter starting kindergarten. Our oldest losing 2 teeth. The birth of two beautiful babies to our best friends. The marriage of another. Vacation with our girls. Dinner with our family. Selling out the workshop. Renewing our vows. And the new Batman came out. We can’t forget that one. Our lives have been filled with goodness.

So as 2012 comes to a close I look back on it with mixed emotions. There were so many great moments, but I am ready for 2013 to arrive. To rip that page off my calendar. And to make this year the best one our family has ever had. This year we will travel. Host 2 workshops. Watch Rachel start grade 1. Hopefully see Sarah Elizabeth’s first tooth fall out (she’s been wiggling that thing for months now). Celebrate my 30th birthday (ugh). And welcome more babies and join in more special weddings of family and friends. 2013 is going to be a great year.

As I’m not one for big resolutions, I won’t promise to floss more. Or go to bed earlier. I’m horrible at remembering to do either anyways. But I will promise our family to laugh more. Listen more. Be slower to yell. And quicker to hug. Read more books. Play outside more. Eat more bacon and watch more Batman. Wander around Costco and eat all the samples together. Make snowmen. Go swimming. Teach the girls how to skate. Write more. Visit and call family more often. And just in general….slow down.

So goodbye 2012 and welcome 2013. We are so thankful for all the amazing brides/grooms, boudoir clients, families, photographers and couples who made our job easy this year. You inspire us and we blessed to be a part of your lives. We are thankful that you have invited us along on your journey and are excited to see old faces again and meet many more new ones. From our family to yours, may your 2013 be filled with love, laughter and goodness. Happy New Year!
