DANIELLE AND PAUL – THE DAY…(photos by ewan)

When Ewan and I started talking about getting engaged it was always ‘one day’. Or ‘sometime down the road’. We were both in school. Didn’t have much money (read : none). And we were practically babies, although thought we were so grown up at the time. Even when we started casually visiting ring shops I wasn’t expecting a proposal for years. And even still when the ring was purchased and hidden away safely inside a stuffed animal, I assumed my birthday would be the earliest date it could possibly happen. Little did I know that I’d be seeing that ring again very soon. Just before my birthday to keep me on my toes.

Being the manager at a jewelry store, Danielle had seen just about every ring there was. Big. Small. Princess cut. Square. Simple. Fancy. And every other kind. So when her and Paul started talking about getting engaged, she had a pretty good idea of what she had hoped for in a ring. Together they designed something special, custom just to her. And even though Danielle knew Paul had the ring, she had no idea when he was going to propose. And so she waited….

As time passed Danielle grew more and more excited. But waited quietly, not saying anything. Just waiting. With her birthday coming up she wondered if this would be it. The special day. Yet still she waited. A couple of days before they were celebrating Canada Day with Danielle’s family and their friends. Not expecting anything yet, Paul knew this was the perfect opportunity. Just before they were heading out for the fireworks, Paul got down on one knee and took Danielle’s hand in his. He told her how much he loved her and that he wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. He pulled out the ring they had designed together and put it on her finger. More beautiful than she even remembered, Danielle said yes and they headed off to watch the fireworks and share the good news. All just before her birthday, to keep her on her toes.
