DANIELLE AND MIKE – THE DAY….(photos by ewan)

There is no shutting off the moment you’re ready to propose. Rain or no rain. Plan success of plan failure. When you’re ready, you’re ready. If plans change, you roll with it. And that’s exactly what Mike did.

He had the whole thing planned out. A day at her parent’s cottage. Lounge chairs on the beach. Sunset. And a ring. It was going to be perfect. Even as the rain started he still held on to the plan, hoping the dark skies would pass. Or maybe even that the rain would make it more romantic. But when Danielle wasn’t interested in the long drive just to be stuck inside the cottage, plan A quickly went out the window. With a thump.

Already psychologically prepared to propose, there was no going back. Plan B it would be. He called his brother and asked if he would buy a dozen long stemmed roses and take them to the hill. He didn’t even have to explain where he was talking about, his brother just knew. It was Mike’s hill. The place he played when he was a kid. And sat to clear his mind as he got older. It was his thinking place. It would be perfect. Even better than the beach.

Being one of the hottest days of the year it took some convincing to get Danielle to go for a walk. She thought he was a little crazy to want to go out in such heat. But along she went, knowing he is a kid at heart and probably just wanted to play on the equipment. The further they walked, the hotter it seemed to get. With a bit of persuasion, Mike dragged Danielle to the top of the hill. Where the roses were all laid out, waiting. As he went down on one knee, he took her hand and proposed. And there on the other side of the hill were Mike’s parents and brothers cheering them on.

It may not have been his original plan. And he may not even remember what he said right then. But the moment was perfect. And real. And happened. Danielle and Mike were getting engaged.
