ERICA AND BRAD – THE DAY AFTER…(photos by ewan)

She’s the one he loves. He’s her true love come true. They are best friends. He is her sanctuary. Her safe place. The one who will listen and try to understand, even if it’s hard. She is his strength. The beauty in his day. The one he gets up an hour early for in the morning just to make her coffee and lunch for work. They are the love of each others’ lives. Erica and Brad are two pieces, but together one whole.

The first “I love you” just sort of slipped out. They had only been dating for a couple of weeks and it definitely wasn’t time yet. Brad had walked Eric home after visiting one evening and after saying goodnight on the porch he turned to walk away. But suddenly turned back around yelled ‘love you!‘ Brad stopped dead in his tracks. And Erica burst out in a fit of giggles, knowing it was a mistake. As they both stood there embarrassed Brad tried to find words. Any words. But nothing came out. Finally he said, “I didn’t mean that. I mean, I like you. So much”. As they both stood their laughing and hugging Erica admitted she liked him ‘so much‘ too. Even if they weren’t ready quite yet, they knew the words were coming soon. “So much” wasn’t nearly enough to describe how they actually felt.

After the I loves you had been said, time passed quickly. After dating for 2.5 years Erica found herself traveling to Paris to study French for 5 months. The goodbye was nearly crippling. And while she was supposed to be having the time of her life, she missed Brad more than anything. Erica felt alone. Letters, emails and phone calls just weren’t enough. She missed her other half. At the 3 month mark she couldn’t handle it anymore. She wondered if Brad felt the same. When he surprised her by coming to Paris she was pretty certain he did. Or at least really hoped so. Then as she watched Brad getting off the plane she saw it in his face. He dropped his luggage, without even caring where it ended up. He ran across the airport and picked Erica up, sweeping her off her feet. The look on his face was pure joy and relief. And they both knew they had been feeling the exact same way. In the middle of the crowded airport Erica hugged the man she loved. Her best friend. Her safe place. And he held his true love come true. His strength. The beauty in his day. Nothing in the world was going to keep them apart, not even Continents. They belonged together. They are one whole.

ELISHA AND PETER – THE DAY AFTER…(photos by ewan)

She was an undergraduate. He was a professor. And his nickname was ‘Hottie Hausie’. All the girl students thought he was cute. Including Elisha. When she lobbied him to be her thesis advisor it was as much for his looks as his willingness to let her explore her own research topic. She was eager to learn and excited about the project.

Elisha and Peter had a great working relationship, but never anything more. Professional through and through. After graduation Elisha became pregnant and had a son with her partner. Graduate school would temporarily have to wait. She kept very loose contact with Peter for when it was time to return to school. But their lives went off in separate directions.

A few years later her relationship ended and Elisha wanted to finish school. She invited Peter to meet her for lunch to discuss her options. They smiled and laughed and he helped lay out the different ways she could finish grad school. And as they were leaving Elisha hugged him for the first time. Completely flustered she stumbled away and didn’t know what to do. And walked straight into a glass wall in the middle of the restaurant. Embarrassed, she scurried out to her car, thinking she’d made a complete fool of herself.

But a few days later they went on a first date and they both knew right away. Peter asked to hold her hand. Told her she was beautiful. And insisted on waiting to kiss her, like a gentleman. After all these years of knowing each other professionally, it was time to get to know each other in a different way. And they both knew after that first date that they were a perfect fit.

Elisha and Peter eloped and are having a reception with friends and family, but wanted some photos to share and celebrate their marriage. So they got dressed up in their wedding dress and suit again for a Day After Session and we had a blast! Congratulations, Peter and Elisha!

JOCELYN AND JAKE – THE DAY/AFTER…(photos by ewan)

Her voice was calm and steady. She spoke softly and quickly. I couldn’t believe the words coming out of her mouth. I don’t think she could either. Jake had a blood infection and had just come out of surgery. He was sick. Really sick. There might not be a wedding.

I tried to stay calm to help keep Jocelyn calm. But inside I was panicking more than just a little bit. The wedding was only 3 days away. Jake was in the ICU and was facing going back into surgery again. Yet still Jocelyn’s voice remained calm and steady. All that mattered to her was that she married Jake. It didn’t matter if it was 3 days later. In a hospital bed. Or 3 months from now. She just wanted to marry the man of her dreams.

Another surgery came and went. Hooked up to antibiotics, Jake was allowed to leave the hospital right before the wedding. He wasn’t feeling 100%. His arm was in a sling. And he didn’t have as much energy as he’d hoped. But he was going to marry Jocelyn that day, no matter what. Nothing was going to stop him. As they walked down the aisle towards each other they were both calm. Both steady. They had faced one of the most difficult challenges of their lives together and were getting married. If they could overcome this, they could over come everything.

- We were able to take limited photos of Jocelyn and Jake’s wedding day, but went out for a Day After Session after Jake was all healed to capture their bride and groom photos. The seasons changed and there was a bit of a delay in between, but it meant Jake could be himself and have the energy to take more than a few photos at a time. Jocelyn and Jake, you handled this situation with nothing but grace and patience. It was amazing to watch you two on your wedding day, supporting each other, loving each other. Thank you for inviting us along for the journey.
