She gets nervous easily. Playing the organ at family functions as a child made her break out into a sweat. She sometimes contemplated running away and hiding. And sometimes had to fight the need to throw up. Being in front of large groups of people just wasn’t her thing…
Kristin had always gotten nervous before big events. For as long as she could remember she would get slightly terrified before stepping foot on stage, to the front of the classroom or being surrounded by people. If she was in a friend’s wedding party she froze. And she couldn’t even say a speech at her mom’s 50th birthday party because her nerves got the best of her. In the weeks before their wedding, Kristin and Lawrence had learned a ballroom dance to perform for their guests. But Kristin was pretty certain it wouldn’t happen. She was convinced that A) She’d trip on her dress and ruin it or B) She’d throw up in the middle of the dance floor. In the days leading up to the wedding she was less than calm.
But on that sunny afternoon she felt something very different. She felt Relaxed. Not nervous at all. As she walked down the aisle it was as if time froze. She didn’t notice the crowd of people surrounding her. She only noticed Lawrence. All those times before that she had been nervous she had been alone. There was no one standing beside her to hold her hand. But on this day as she reached the end of the aisle, Lawrence took her hands in his. And standing there together in front of their friends and family just felt right. Lawrence had given her the strength to get through that moment. He had given her the strength to get through anything.
