She liked to be in control. To have everything neat and orderly and go as planned. She was a teacher and it was intrinsic for her to want things to flow smoothly. For Jen, controlling the little details was how she made everything perfect…
There are many things a bride can control when planning her wedding day. She can choose the exact colour of flowers she wants. The piece of music that she will dance to with her new husband during the reception. The flavour of soup and the number of guests on the list. But there was one thing that Jen just couldn’t be in charge of. In the weeks, even months leading up to the wedding, Jen and Nick were glued to the weather network. They watched it religiously and became acquainted with the ins and outs of weather fronts and patterns. As the weeks went on it continued to rain every weekend without fail. And not just a little bit of rain, but a whole lot of rain. The radar screen was filled with little black clouds and there were only a few days left until the wedding. Hesitantly, they came to the realization that their special day was likely going to be a little soggy. Or maybe even really really soggy. So Jen set off in search of the perfect pair of rubber boots. If she couldn’t control the weather, she could at least control looking fashionable and staying dry from the knees down.
Wandering up and down the aisles she wasn’t having any luck and was ready to give up. But then there they were. The most perfect pair of black and white zebra striped boots called her name and begged to be taken home. Not even Cinderella could have found a better pair of rain boots for her wedding day. And while it did in fact pour rain on Jen and Nick’s day, it didn’t matter to them. They rolled with it. A few thousand drops weren’t going to rain on their parade and it didn’t matter anymore that Jen couldn’t control things. It didn’t matter that small ducks could get lost in the deep puddles. Or that it had poured for the 8th weekend in a row. All that mattered was that they were married. And as they jumped in puddles together they knew that everything about their rainy day was perfect.
