They loved The Amazing Race. On an epic level. Every single week, without fail there they were. Parked in front of the t.v. Wrapped up in blankets. Popcorn in hand. And smiles from ear to ear. And the minute it was over, Jenn and Dave counted the minutes until next week. Same time. Same place.
One day after class Jenn came home to find her roommates buzzing with excitement. Taped on Jenn’s door was a sign that said “The Amazing Date : Be ready at 4:00″. The girls insisted that Dave was going to propose and helped get her out the door. She was certain this was it. At 4:00 Dave handed her the first clue : “Go to the place where…” and on they continued. Around the city they drove, stopping along the way at challenges, road blocks and detours. They found themselves at a maze through a corn field, at a beautiful dinner and in Stratford by the lake. As the day was coming to an end, Jenn could barely contain her excitement – it had to be almost time. As Dave handed her the final clue she opened it, nearly bursting. Only to feel her heart sink as the clue read : “Make your way to the pit stop : home”. She tried not to let her disappointment show, but got back in the car wondering how she could have been so wrong. What was she going to tell her roommates? Jenn stared out the window trying not to show Dave that she was sad.
Halfway home Dave mentioned something about a light on the dashboard and needing to pull over. As he hopped out of the car, he asked Jenn to grab the owner’s manual in the glove box. Expecting to find nothing out of the ordinary, Jenn popped open the compartment only to find another clue : “Come to the front of the car”. So out she climbed and walked to where she thought Dave was fixing the car. Except that’s the last thing he was doing. Down on one knee, ring in his hand, Dave was waiting for her. And asked her to be his wife. It really had been The Amazing Date and it came with the best prize of all.
