I was 21. He was 22. We owned one computer and a laptop. One camera. One charger. And a whole lot of ambition. The computer sat in our dining room and it would take us days to even sort through the photos. Days to edit them. That little PC was not very happy. We were excited and had plans to have a real office one day. But for the time being we just ate Kraft Dinner around our little computer and waited.
With our first home we finally had a real office. We splurged on a Mac computer and even had a real desk. But it was right beside the window that was drafty. The neighbour’s dog liked to bark right beside said window all day long. And it still was taking us days to get through the process of post production. We were far from effective.
Rachel was born and I was back in the office working the next day. Lame, yes. But we still hadn’t figured things out quite just yet. She sat at our feet in a bouncy chair and we had to bounce her with our feet. Constantly. Non-stop. Or she cried. But the soft click click of the keyboard and Ewan singing Mo-town to her always eventually lulled her right back to sleep. It wasn’t ideal. It wasn’t exactly how we had always dreamed about. But it worked and we were in it together as a family.
The office moved again only a couple of months after Rachel was born. But not for a good reason. The roof across half of the 2nd floor decided to give out one day. And after a loud ‘thump’ we realized that our roof was now laying on the upstairs floor. Some many thousand dollars later our home was fixed, but the office had been shuffled all over : the bedroom, the spare bedroom, the basement, the dining room (again). That office got around.
Once upon a time it even found itself in a room we painted entirely red. Blood red. That was a big mistake. Just think ‘redrum’ over and over again. And finally the business took over the entire 2nd floor that we gutted (again) and converted to office and client space. And while we loved it and it was awesome, one little girl turned into two. And the noise volume got louder. And it got harder and harder to work from home. Our little family and business in the same place was making our home burst at the seams.
So, today’s the day. The day we share our surprise. The one we’ve been taunting you about and hanging in front of you like a carrot in front of a rabbit. We didn’t want to be mean, honest. We just wanted to wait until everything was ready to go and we were able to show you properly. So without further ado, we introduce to you our studio space. We are the proud new owners of a 6th floor studio that overlooks the city. It has a meeting space just for clients. A studio just for shooting. And an office just for all things office related (not show in the pictures because it looks like a bomb went off in there).
We are so thankful. So excited. Maybe so crazy. We can’t wait to photograph our first session in the new studio tomorrow and I’m headed off to my first meeting there in just a few minutes. This was always a 10 year plan for us, not a 5 year plan like it’s become. But we are so thankful to be able to offer this new space to our clients and colleagues. Thank you for joining us throughout the past 5 years and sharing in the crazy ride. And thank you for your support, love and encouragement. We can’t wait to have everyone come see our new space and hope you enjoy some shots we took as a sneak peek. Happy Wednesday!
