PAUL AND NANCY – THE DAY…(photos by yaira)

It was the most magical place in the world. I was 10 and I was convinced that I wasn’t going to leave. My bedroom at home just wasn’t as cool. My backyard certainly didn’t have roller coasters. And princesses didn’t eat breakfast with me around our kitchen table. Walt Disney World was where I wanted to live and I urged my parents to let me live in the giant Kingdom. Pleaded may be a more appropriate word, but there was lots of bargaining involved. I had dreams of having tea with Cinderella in the morning. Riding the merry-go-round at lunch time. And giving tours of the park in the evenings. I was 10 and I was smitten.

For Nancy, it happened when she was 4. Goofy picked her up and sat back down in stroller, with her propped on his lap. As her father pushed them around the park it was instant. Nancy was in love. Not just with Goofy, but with the entire place. So when Paul and Nancy were making plans for their honeymoon, there was only one place that seemed logical. Only one place that she really wanted to go. The most magical place in the world. Walt Disney World.

In the months leading up to the wedding, Nancy kept teasing Paul that if given the chance with Goofy, she might just take it. They laughed and joked and counted the days until their honeymoon. So wouldn’t luck have it that while sitting at breakfast one morning, there he was. Goofy. Noticing the ‘Just married’ badge that Nancy was wearing, Goofy strutted up, pretended to remove the wedding ring from her hand and pulled a new pretend one out of his pocket. Giving Paul a little push out of the way, Goofy was trying to steal her away. But all Nancy could give him was a hug and kiss and told her beloved childhood friend that her heart now belonged to Paul. This place was still pure magic to her. Everything about it was the same. Except this time, it wasn’t Goofy who had her heart. It was Paul. Her new husband.
