BELINDA AND CHRIS – THE DAY…(photos by ewan)

Love is about compromise. Sometimes it’s big things like money and sacrifices. Sometimes it’s little things like me wanting to see New Moon and Ewan wanting to see Invictus. But like any good married couple, we talked it over. Weighed out our options. Then came to an agreement. And when the movie he chose was the worst thing on the planet, I was paid back with Starbucks and a brownie. Yes, love is all about compromise…

Chris loves the outdoors. He is always trying to get Belinda to go hiking, canoeing, snowshoeing (especially snowshoeing), anything that involves being outside. And while Belinda doesn’t hate these things, she’s just never the first to say, “Let’s go (insert outdoor activity here)”. But they compromise. Chris does everything he can to make it easier (read : fun) for her to participate. When he wanted to go biking, he bought Belinda a beautiful blue bike, a matching Camelbak and the girliest pair of pink biking gloves that exist. And when he wanted her to go canoeing, he brought along the iPhone and speakers even though it scared away the fish. Never once complaining about the extra pairs of shoes, makeup, hairstyling tools and changes of clothes, he even takes her into town to go shopping despite the fact that it completely defeats the purpose of camping : to get away from the city. All that matters to Chris is being outdoors with the woman he loves.

Despite his love of both Belinda and being outside, the one thing he doesn’t enjoy is running. Not his idea of fun. Not his cup of tea. And it’s the one thing Belinda loves. While he sometimes gives in and tags along, running in the Winter just flat out doesn’t happen. But this Spring Belinda is running her first half marathon and needs a training partner. So they’ve talked it over. Weighed out their options. And come to a conclusion. For every time that they go running in the Winter, they will go snowshoeing too. They’ll give and take. They’ll take and give. Because love is about love. And love is about compromise. And they wouldn’t have it any other way :)
