Leading up to the wedding day Rachel and Mike often talked about the moment she would walk down the aisle. She worried that she might trip. Or get her heel stuck in her gown and rip it. Or that she would faint. Even though she had never once fainted in her life, Rachel was certain that at that very moment she would fall flat on her face in front of their closest friends and family. And if she did somehow manage to make it to the front of the ceremony, she would most definitely forget her vows. Or she would open her mouth and no words would come out. Or it would be then that she would faint.
Being the calm and collected man that he is, Mike reassured Rachel time and time again that everything would run smoothly. That everything would be perfect. That she would do great. He was positive that he would calm on the day and that Rachel too would be able to relax as she came down the aisle. Shortly before she started the walk, Rachel’s mom pulled her aside with some advice. As Rachel rounded the corner of the ceremony she saw Mike. And her mom’s words resonated in her ear : “You will be fine. Take a deep breath and enjoy this moment with your father”. So she did. Rachel took a deep breath. Took her father’s arm and smiled. And then she started giggling. And waving. And pointing at people and jumping up and down more than just a little bit. She forgot all about being nervous and took in every aspect of the moment. As she looked around at their friends and family she felt like a celebrity on the red carpet and as she looked over at her father she was happy. Catching Mike’s eye at the front she noticed the look of pure shock on his face as she wasn’t nervous in the least. He had been certain that Rachel would be having a panic attack. Or that he really might have to pick her up after fainting. But it was Mike who was a ball of nerves as his bride-to-be nearly skipped down the aisle. And when they reached each other, they both smiled. She took his hands in hers and tried to calm his nerves. And tried to make sure that he wasn’t the one to faint. And counted the minutes until she got to say her vows and tell Mike : “I love you”.
