One of our favourite things about what we do for a living is the connections. The connections we make that really affect our lives. Some of our best friends today were brides and grooms from only a couple of years ago. We met while they were planning, photographed their wedding and hit it off. There are the connections we build also with our vendors. When we show up at a venue we know many of the co-ordinators on a first name basis, know their kids names and know that the yellow tie means that it’s going to be a great party. And some of the best connections we make are with the families of our brides and grooms. When I was pregnant and hadn’t even told my own parents yet, Kelly’s mom knew. It was her daughter’s wedding. She had met me for all of thirty seconds and she took one look at me and told me that a glass of gingerale would settle my stomach and that the morning sickness wouldn’t last. I nearly kissed her when she handed me a big mug of bubbling wonderfulness. Sometimes there is just an instant connection.
When Ewan photographed Andrea and Tim’s wedding in 2007 we got to meet her brother Mark. And when Mark and Jessica got engaged we were ecstatic to work with the family again, this time with Yaira photographing their wedding. There was a whole lot of rain involved, but no one seemed to even bat an eye – everything ran perfectly. The dress was stunning. The hair piece was stunning. The flowers were stunning. The couple was stunning. Every aspect of the day was s.t.u.n.n.i.n.g. Jessica and Mark, thank you so much for being one of those connections that has affected our lives and we hope to cross paths again in the future :)
