It was February. He had the ring. Now all he had to do was ask. Jamie had originally planned on proposing to Katrina on their trip to Mexico. But as the vacation drew closer, Jamie started to worry about losing the ring. Or Customs searching his bag. Or Katrina accidentally riffling through the luggage to find chap stick. And when Katrina’s dad went away and Jamie couldn’t ask permission first, his plans weren’t going exactly as planned.
So as the months dragged on, Jamie waited patiently for Katrina’s dad to return. The minute he did return Jamie left work early to meet him. As Jamie sat there waiting, he started to sweat. He started to panic. What if the answer was no? Katrina’s dad was on a conference call and the minutes seemed to drag by. Five minutes turned to ten. And ten minutes turned to twenty. Thirty. Forty. Over an hour later, Jamie was finally on deck and was more nervous than when he had originally arrived. The answer was thankfully yes after the wait and Jamie set out on his way to finish his plans.
After making Katrina dinner, they went for a walk along the beach. Every few feet Jamie stuck his hand in his pocket just to make sure that the ring was still there. Caught up in watching the crashing waves, Katrina suddenly realized that she was walking alone. As she turned back to walk over to where Jamie was, she saw written in the sand : “Will you marry me”? Her initial response wasn’t a ‘yes’ or a squeal or tears. Instead the first words out of her mouth were : “is this a joke”? Jamie started to laugh, pulled the ring from his pocket and assured he it was definitely not a joke. And then finally came the squeals, the tears and what Jamie had been waiting so long to hear…the yes…
