They knew early in the relationship that they were meant to be together. Maybe even on the first date. After four years of dating, Chris knew it was time to ask that one very important question. And so he started looking at cars. He didn’t really need a car. In fact he’d bought a new car only a few years earlier. But he surrounded himself with cars, cars, cars. He couldn’t talk about anything else. And Emma was slowly growing to hate anything with four wheels.
As the months rolled on, Chris drove Emma crazy talking about vehicles 24/7. But he knew exactly what he was doing. It wasn’t a car that Chris was planning to buy. It was a ring. The car talk was his way of throwing off any suspicions that a proposal was coming in any way. It was all part of his master plan.
But when the time came for the proposal there was a glitch. He couldn’t find the ring. On a trip to Spain, they spent the day exploring and ended up at the top of a hill overlooking Barcelona. Knowing this was the perfect spot, Chris went to their bag to grab the ring box. But the more he looked, the more he started to panic that it wasn’t there. Worried that Emma was going to suspect something, he kept calling out that he was just looking for snacks. The more frantic he became, the more Emma started to wonder why her boyfriend had turned into a crazed hungry maniac in a foreign Country. Turning away to avoid laughing (or crying) at Chris’s craziness, Emma looked off in the other direction to enjoy the view. Then the shuffling through the bag stopped and it was suddenly quiet. When Emma turned around Chris was on one knee holding a ring and asking her to marry him. She hadn’t expected it. She didn’t know it was coming. And all this time she thought Chris had been saving for a car. But this moment was better than anything with four wheels. This moment was the perfect surprise :)
