In that moment she knew that there was no one else she’d rather tread water with…
It was their first vacation. On the beautiful white sand of Cuba, they laid under the sun. Sipping cool drinks. Listening to the crashing of the waves. Sleeping. With a bit more sleeping. As the hours passed, Sarah and Dustin lost track of time and stayed in the sun for a little too long. As Dustin’s skin turned a golden brown, Sarah found herself a different shade. Pink. Red. And more red. Finding herself with sun stroke, the first day of their vacation didn’t end quite as she had planned.
After a couple days of rest, Sarah was back to her normal self. As they hopped on a catamaran she hoped that the trip was about to turn around. Stopping at different spots in the ocean, they snorkeled through the water following fish and exploring. But at one of the stops they ventured a little too far and when they came back up to the surface their catamaran was gone. Speeding away in the opposite direction. At top speed. And no amount of furious swimming could bring them any closer. No amount of hollering could make them heard. The boat was gone. And they were left alone in the middle of the Ocean.
In a situation where most people would panic, Dustin stayed calm. He assured Sarah that another boat would be along soon and that he’d protect her. He kept his cool. He never once complained. And he kept her safe. Nothing about the vacation had gone as planned, but right then and there it didn’t matter. In that moment Sarah knew that even on the worst day or in the scariest situation, Dustin could make everything all better. That he would always be there for her. And she knew that there was no one in the world she’d rather tread water with.
Sarah and Dustin, I’m so glad that another boat came along to save you that day. I’m pretty sure I would have sobbed like a baby in that situation and started screaming for a dolphin to come save me. We have loved every minute of getting to know throughout all of your planning and hope we’ll be able to work together again in the future. Congratulations to both of you :)
