Sometimes when I sit down to write wedding blog posts it’s hard for me to top that couple’s engagement post. The first was just really sweet or funny or romantic and nothing I write can compete. Every time I’ve tried to write something for Julie and Steve I ended up bursting out laughing remembering a funny story they shared with me that I used with their engagement photos. And because the post was way back in 2008 I’m not sure if many of our new blog readers would have seen it. And so I want to share it again…
There have been more than a few times in our marriage that Ewan hasn’t believed something that I’ve told him. I swear that there was a man walking down Richmond street wearing just a speedo, a small child was holding his mother’s hand in the mall wearing only a diaper and sandals and that there was a random dog swimming in our pool last summer. Even though he never saw these things and thinks that I probably need glasses, I insist to this day that I’m not crazy and that I saw all three.
Julie and Steve shared a cute story with me recently that reminded me that I should just start carrying my camera with me 24/7 so that Ewan will stop thinking that I’m nuts!
…..It was a beautiful, cloudless morning in Mexico on their vacation to Riu Tequila. “You won’t believe what happened last night,†Steve said excitedly to Julie. Unsure of where this line was headed she was certain that it would be interesting to say the least.
“I was walking back to the room and I heard something in the bushes, so I decided to check it outâ€. Peaking her interest, Julie listened on as Steve got more excited about the previous night’s events. “I walked towards the noise and around the corner there were 40 monkeys with big long tails that were stuck straight up in the air. I tried to get a picture, but the batteries in my camera were deadâ€.
Certain that Steve was either crazy, or delirious from the sun, she didn’t quite believe the unlikely story, but Steve insisted that it wasn’t just the tequila he had consumed that night and that the monkeys did really exist.
Steve pressed on, insisting that the monkeys must only come out at 3am (the same time he had been out wandering). As their vacation dwindled down to it’s last days, they were out late on their last night for a walk. Frustrated that the monkeys hadn’t been witnessed by anyone else except Steve, Julie teased him that he’d made the whole thing up. As they headed back to their room, she started, “if I don’t see these monkeys soon, I’m….†and just as they turned the corner the monkeys were standing there with their tales up in the air and one of them was eating a hot dog.
“I told you I wasn’t lyingâ€, Steve laughed. “It’s 3amâ€.
This time the batteries to the camera were fully charged and Steve took a picture to prove that Mexico did, in fact, have hot dog-eating monkeys who only came out at 3am.
