This time he was interested…in her….
She was looking for a roommate. Someone to share the rent. Share the cable bill. Share conversation. Carol was looking for someone new to step into her life. After interviewing some potential roommates, she was quite certain the the 40 year old divorcee or the strange man who asked her out on a date weren’t quite who she wanted to live with. And then Shawn called.
When she answered the door there was silence. Nothing. Not a word. And finally he stammered…’uhmmm hello’. Carol thought about closing the door right then and there. She wasn’t looking for a roommate who wouldn’t even speak to her. But something about his eyes made her let him in. As they went on the traditional walk-through, Midas the cat who usually hid under the couch followed them around. A stranger to even Carol’s closest family, Midas wasn’t the most social of creatures. But he liked Shawn. And Carol knew that if Midas liked him, Shawn must be an okay guy. After an awkward “so, do you like stuff” moment, conversation just started flowing. After two hours it was obvious that they had hit it off and that he was interested in being roommates.
As the weeks went on, Carol was a ’smitten kitten’. She talked about Shawn all the time. Non-stop. Every day at work there was a perma-grin plastered across her face and every night she hurried home to start a new conversation. She was hooked. And Shawn had been hooked from that first moment she opened the door. And it was getting harder and hide to hide the fact. One night after a vodka drinking contest Shawn just couldn’t hold back : “I have something to tell you….I think I have feelings for you”. This time Carol was the one who couldn’t look him in the eye as he leaned in to kiss her. This time he wasn’t shy to let her know that he was interested….in her.
