Life is short and love is huge…
I remember the day that I told a friend of mine that Ewan was the man I was going to marry. She stared at me with a blank face and said, ‘why would anyone want to spend the rest of their life with the same person’? It hadn’t been the response I was expecting and I was caught off guard. I went on to tell her that I looked forward to waking up beside him every morning. Growing old with him. And sitting on a park bench feeding the ducks. I was certain that marriage was the best thing in the world and just couldn’t understand what she was thinking. But she just wouldn’t have it. She tried to convince me that he would leave his dishes on the counter. That he’d have smelly feet and his shoes would stink up the whole house. And that he didn’t like ducks. And certainly wouldn’t want to sit on a bench and feed them. She tried to convince me that forever was just way too long. As I went home that evening with dashed dreams and a sad heart I was afraid to face Ewan. Maybe marriage wasn’t all I thought it would be. Maybe forever would be too long. But the minute he opened the door and greeted me with that big smile of his, I knew that marriage was right for us. That marriage was forever. And that forever was a good thing…
As Mike’s sister stood at the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding she shared a story with her brother and soon to be sister-in-law. She talked about worries and fears she had when she realized she had found the man she wanted to marry. She worried that the rest of her life was a long time to spend with one person. She worried how she would commit to one person and not go crazy being with them every single day. She worried about forever. But then she looked into the eyes of the man she loved and saw her future. And saw him. And after 10 years of marriage each day is better than the last. As she stood in front of Mike and Christie at the dinner, she told them that she had been thinking all backwards on that day she had fears. She realized that a life time is a long time to be someone. But a lifetime just isn’t long enough to spend with the person you love. Because life is short, and love is huge…
Mike and Christie, your love for each other is beyond huge. It’s extra huge. It’s massive. It’s epic. One lifetime won’t even begin to be enough to contain all of your love for each other. We hope that every single day you spend together is huge, extra huge, massive and epic. We hope that you experience enough love together to fill multiple life times. Thank you so much for inviting us to be a part of your special day – we can’t wait to see you again soon.
