A rainy Sunday is just about my favourite type of day…
1. Yesterday I got stuck in a dress. Yes, you read that properly. I got stuck in a dress. In public. I decided to take the girls out for a fun day : the library, a walk, the craft store, lunch and shopping for new dresses. While we were in the store I fell in love with a dress for myself and decided to try it on. After maneuvering a shopping cart into the family changing room and having all of about 2 feet to move around, I got undressed quickly because I knew the girls were hungry and anxious to get out of the store. The cute little sundress was kind of low cut and didn’t look it was meant to be worn with anything underneath, so I decided to try it on without a bra. And apparently without undoing the clasps all of the way. Because before I knew it, I was stuck. I had one arm in the dress. One arm out. One boob in the dress. One boob out. My hair was caught in the zipper. The girls were starting to fuss. And there was nothing I could do. Every time I tried to pull the dress back up, it got stuck even more. And every time I tried to pull it down, it grabbed more of my hair and just made more of a mess. After a few minutes of struggling, muttering under my breath and trying to keep two kids in a shopping cart, I finally gave up. Almost in tears I had to call out for the sales lady to come to my rescue. But I wasn’t willing to go out into the public area half naked. And there was only a couple of feet in the change room. And remember I wasn’t wearing a bra. So the poor sales lady had to come into the jam packed change room and help pull the dress off up over my head. And untangle my hair out of the zipper. While the entire time the girls laughed like maniacs in the shopping cart, I tried to cover my exposed boobs with my hands and lost a few chunks of hair. I was so embarrassed that I put my clothes back on, left the dress in the change room and ran out of the store without making eye contact with a single person. (The horribly, embarrasingly bad).
2. After the dress fiasco I thought it would be a really special treat to take the girls out for lunch. I needed something quick and close by, so we opted for Wendy’s. Rachel didn’t know what this restaurant was and very confused about where we were going. She kept asking “Who is Wendy” as if we were going to a person’s house. The entire meal she kept looking around the restaurant and every few minutes asked where Wendy was. As it hit 12:00 the place started to get packed and the tables were all filling up. I could tell Rachel was getting agitated and upset about something, but she wouldn’t tell me why. Finally she stood up from her chair, came over to me and started crying. And between her sobs kept saying : “Wendy’s dad is going to be so upset that there are so many people at her house”. My heart melted. (The sweetly good).
3. Last week the snow finally melted and we were able to get outside to do some yard work. Over the years it has become a bit of a Spring tradition for Ewan and I to go out and see how the yard held up over the winter. When we first moved into our house there was a huge in-ground pool in the yard. After the first Winter we found 7 dead squirrels in it. The next year 9. After we filled in the pool we thought we’d be done finding treasures in our yard after the snow had all melted. But apparently we were wrong. On that warm day last week when we went outside to clean up we were greeted with a new kind of strange finding. Not a dead squirrel. Or rabbit. Or mouse. Nope, instead we found 3 pillows out in the yard. Three of Rachel’s pillows were beside the deck. Pillowcases and all. A few months ago she had spilled a glass of milk in the fort we were building and soaked all of the pillows. We had tossed them outside to dry out with full intention of washing them later that day. But apparently we forgot them and they fell of the side of the deck. If we thought it was hard having to throw away dead squirrels, try having to get rid of a 3 years old’s pillows while she watches. (The sadly sadly bad).
4. Sarah Elizabeth outgrew her shoes, so off to the store we went. She ran over to the wall of baby sized shoes and got very excited. She looked at the wall. Looked at us. Looked at the wall. Looked at us. Then went straight for the pair of bright pink shoes with the pink bow. And squealed a little girl squeal with such excitement that it made this shoe loving mom just a wee bit proud. (The good).
5. One of my favourite parts of the day is story book time at bedtime. We read stories and sing songs. Okay, Rachel sings songs and Sarah Elizabeth just squeals and claps like a maniac. One of Rachel’s favourite things to sing is the ABC’s song. She has one part that gives her a little bit of trouble, but I just didn’t have the heart to correct her the other night as she proudly sang : “H, I, J, K, ELMO, P”. (The good).
6. This past week we were excited to see our work featured on two great blogs. Our friends Adam and Imthiaz are amazing photographers from Denver. They also run a blog called Lucy Dylan weddings. 1. They love Bob Dylan. 2. They love Lucy. 3. They love to write. And so Lucy Dylan Weddings was born. We were honoured recently when A&I asked to feature Jennifer and Pat’s wedding and hope you’ll head over to their blog to check out some great wedding features and writing. (The blog).
7. Thank you also to Jennifer from Sensational Wedding Vendors for featuring a photo from Jon and Lisa’s wedding for their Wordless Wednesday image this week. Just a small note, we LOVE this blog. It started as a small idea – that Canada needed local wedding inspiration. As much as I have lots of American blogs that I follow, I love Sensational Wedding Vendors for it’s Canadian vendors and features. If you’re looking for great Canadian content, this is the place. It’s definitely a favourite. (The blog).
