CHRISTINE AND MIKE – THE DAY… (photos by ewan)

We spent days pouring over our wedding menu. We needed meat options. Vegetarian options. Spicy options. Bland options. It was enough to make me want to pull my hair out. In the end, we settled on 13 perfect things to be served at our afternoon cocktail wedding. They were going to be delicious and I couldn’t wait to taste them. For weeks I dreamed about baked brie with raspberry coulis. And then our wedding day came and my stomach was ready. The perfect raspberry red colour caught my eye and my stomach begged me to indulge. But, alas, I was whisked away to save the world elsewhere. And my stomach cried. Just a little bit.

All of the thoughtfulness we put into our spread and Ewan and I didn’t get eat a single bite of it. The table was beautiful. The food looked delicious. Our guests kept telling us how wonderful it all tasted. And we were too busy to even sample it. Our first meal together as husband and wife was cake. Now, it was pretty darn delicious cake, but not how I had pictured our feast. Later that evening, we walked into our hotel room and the first thing we did was what any sane newly married couple would do – order room service! Those steaks and french fries were perfection on a plate.

Christine and Mike also had an afternoon cocktail reception and spent hours planning a feast for kings. They could not have possibly planned a better tasting spread and couldn’t wait. After they said their ‘I do’s’, they were excited to share a meal together as husband and wife, but much like our day, the world needed them elsewhere. Their first feast together was a mini quiche florentine. Bite sized, but perfect. Later that night, they also called for room service and their stomachs were forever grateful. Nothing beats burgers, fries, champagne and wedding cake!

Christine and Mike, it poured on our wedding day. And it poured on yours too. Poured like the skies hadn’t rained in years. But you two were so awesome about it. I’m pretty sure I cried when I saw the forecast of storms for our day. It rained, you got sticks stuck in your hair, you didn’t get to eat and you had to walk in the mud with three inch heels – and you smiled through it all. You two were incredibly happy and laid back and just perfect. We loved working with the two of you and hope to be able to cross paths with you again. :)

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE BLOG (17) – OUR LIFE…

Yes, I’m late and I’m so sorry. But yesterday our blog just wouldn’t co-operate and I thought Ewan might get angry if I threw the computer out the window. But today the problem is resolved and here we go. As seen at the Phelan house…

1. If you’re familiar with University Hopsital, when you walk out of the ER, there is a giant hele-pad to the North that is always a little wind tunnel. I was rocking my 1940’s dress that I can fit back into for the first time since having Sarah Elizabeth. Not just a little rocking. Really rocking. As I came walking out of the Emerg doors, the wind caught my very flow-y dress and brought it up. Not just a little bit up. Right up and over my head. As I was standing there in shock and horror, a little woman came bolting over to help me and pull my dress down from attacking my head. But the damage was already done and every single person within 100 feet was already pointing and laughing and my face was red. Purple. Deep purple. And it wouldn’t have been so bad if I could’ve hopped into the car right there, or crawled in a hole and died. But no, I still had to walk across the entire entrance way to the parking garage and validate my parking. And yes, I then had the privilege of having to take the elevator with a dozen of those people who just got a full view of my pink underwear. Up five floors! (The bad).

2. I had my hair highlighted for the first time last Friday. I’m a big fan of the results, but was shocked that it took almost 3 hours to do. I was worried that Ewan was going to think I was kidnapped or had run away, so I excused myself to give him a quick call. My cell phone couldn’t get service in the salon, so I had to step outside. Imagine me standing in a giant hairdresser’s cape – the ‘one size fits all’ poncho look. And my hair in tinfoil with a giant plastic bag on it. I was only going to be 30 seconds, so I wasn’t too worried about how ridiculous I looked. And then one of our brides walked by. With her mom. And introduced us. I think I wet my pants a little bit from how horrified and embarrassed I was. Hi Meghan – it was great to meet your mom, but I’m pretty sure she thinks Jabba The Hut is going to be joining you on your wedding day! (The bad).

3. We are still trying to master potty training with Rachel. She is very interested in what everyone does in the bathroom and will open the door on unsuspecting guests if they aren’t careful to lock it. The other day she wandered in while Ewan was standing at the toilet and stared very intently into the bowl. To try to prompt her to want to use her potty, Ewan asked her if he was using it too. Rachel looked right at him and said, “No Toti’s making bubbles”. (The good).

4. We had a couple of nights in a row where we didn’t get any sleep. Any. After being exhausted for a couple of days it’s inevitable that you start to go loopy. Ewan was reading Rachel a story about animals and the animals were painted orange. When he got to the orangutan (who was painted orange), he kept reading away about it. You know you’re tired when you call the animal an Orange-Katan and don’t even notice. Ewan went and had a nap after that :) (The good).

5. Ewan and I wanted to so something special for ourselves – have photos taken of us together. We have never had professional photos of ourselves taken, even at our wedding. Shame on us! There was no question who we were going to have take our photos – Justin Demers. The day was awesome. It was hot. It was fun. It was hot. It was funny. It was hot. It was romantic. It was hot. But most of all it was perfect. Thanks again to Justin and Michelle for such an amazing experience and we feel blessed to have made two wonderful new friends. You can check out the photos here if you want to see our faces for a rare change. (The good).

6. I tried Starbucks for the first time ever last night. Yes, I know some of you are calling me lame right now for never having experienced it. But I fought it as long as I could. Last night I gave in and had a vanilla bean frappuccino thanks to the generosity of 2 of our bestest friends. I’m not going to lie, it was like heaven in a cup. And while I’m not sure that I can justify spending 7 bucks for a drink on a regular basis, I’ll definitely go back again before the summer’s over to try something else. So long Starbucks-virginity. You won. (I’m not sure if this is good or bad).

7. Ewan is my best friend. The thought of him being ill makes me sick to my stomach. He’s my world. The wildly talented Jen Berry is also best friends with her husband, Steve. They are both super talented photographers who love each other like nothing else. But right now their worlds have been rocked. Steve is at round 5 of chemo treatments for Hodgin’s Lymphoma. He has been keeping a blog chronicling their journey through the disease. Although I knew Jen and have been leaving little love notes on her blog for almost a year, I wasn’t aware of Steve’s 2nd site until last week. I read the entire thing in one sitting. I smiled, I laughed, I cried a little bit and I went and hugged Ewan extra tight. If you have a chance, pop over to Steve’s site and leave them some positive thoughts and strength. Jen and Steve, we’re thinking of both of you and wishing Steve a quick recovery. (The blog).

Happy Monday and come back again in a little bit because I’m in the process of posting Mike and Christine’s wedding too. Coming soon!

Eileen Broderick - I love, love, love the images on your blog but I think “The Good, The Bad and The Blog” entries might be my favorite. Always fun. I laughed out loud about your E/R underwear incident. Is the dress you wore for your recent photo shoot the 40’s dress? Love it! The pics of you and Ewan are amazing. I also spent some time on Steve’s blog and it was very moving and enlightening. I will keep them both in my thoughts. Thank you for sharing.

June 30, 2009 - 9:22 am

Gisele - So many great stories this week :)

June 29, 2009 - 5:42 pm

June 29, 2009 - 4:57 pm

June 29, 2009 - 3:21 pm

Patrick Swanson - Pink underwear, while embarassing is hilarious!!!!

June 29, 2009 - 1:42 pm

Irene - At least you had undewear on ;}

June 29, 2009 - 1:35 pm

Michelle - Fight the Starbucks! I got sucked in and am now fighting to get away. ;)

And your story of your dress & hair experience made me laugh… only because it wasn’t me. I can’t imagine how awful it would have to be to continue on with all those people who saw your undies. :( Eek!!

June 29, 2009 - 1:19 pm

Vicki - Oh boy, do I love reading these.
Just shows how “normal” you guys really are, and the love you guys have for your family and friends.
Glad to be your friend.
xo

June 29, 2009 - 1:17 pm

M. Stewart - I would have just curled up in a ball and starting sobbing if your dress incident happened to me! Thanks for sharing Steve’s site. I look forward to reading it.

June 29, 2009 - 12:43 pm

Sherida - oh Bri, I am sure that everyone was so distracted by how great you looked in your dress they forgot all about your pink underwear…

June 29, 2009 - 12:36 pm

jenberry - you had a lot of first this week. i’ll have to say this is the first time being “highlighted” on someone else blog. i’d have to say that my first is way better than your ER first (time showing your pink panties). I’ll take it.
You are amazing. Thank you for the support. Every bit of positive energy, thought, prayer, whatever someone believes in… helps. Much happiness to your family, friends and followers (blog that is)

June 29, 2009 - 12:06 pm

Mr. Berry - Thanks for the kind words and support.

I was very anti-Starbucks for many years. I can’t say I’ve ever been a big fan (they burn their beans, that’s why it always tastes the same) and I’ll take a Pete’s coffee over a SB’s any time. But some conveniences just wear you down after awhile. And its nice to have a little indulgence now and again, eh?

June 29, 2009 - 11:57 am

heather m. - Making bubbles Lol!

June 29, 2009 - 11:33 am

June 29, 2009 - 11:09 am

June 29, 2009 - 11:04 am

Amanda and Justin - I was having withdraws last night not getting to read this post. THe story about your dress flying up made me laugh out loud :)

EWAN AND BRIANNA – PART 2 – OUR LIFE…(photos by Justin Demers)

I’m not normally one to blog twice in one day. But when my inbox dinged at me and I saw a note from Justin that round 2 of our photos were up on his blog, I couldn’t help it. I am just so excited to share some more photos with you because I think Justin captured our personalities perfectly. Yes Ewan and I are dorky. Yes we’re romantics at heart who have no problems sneaking a kiss in public. Yes we sing off key together in the car while Rachel laughs at us. Yes we roll up in shag carpets for fun. This is us. And to me, these photos are perfectly us. Thanks for getting to know us a little bit better and thanks again to Justin for these awesome memories :)

PAM AND JESSE – THE QUESTION…(photos by Ewan)

The plan : Take Pam to the lighting of the lights in Victoria Park. After the lights come on, take Pam by the hand, guide her over to a bright tree and ask her to marry him.

The ‘yes’ scenario : Hug, cry, kiss and walk downtown for a romantic dinner.

The ‘no’ scenario : Didn’t quite think it through, but breaking a light bulb and licking the exposed end to shock himself into a coma was likely.

What actually happened : The lights came on, people started to sing and then the place cleared out.

Jesse : “That was awesome, let’s take a walk through the park and look at the trees”.
Pam : “I’m cold”.
Jesse : “No worries love, I’ll keep you warm as we walk”.
Pam : “No. I’m really really cold”.
Jesse : “Come on babe, it’s just a small walk. It’s beautiful out”.
Pam : (starting to shiver) “No, I’m really cold. Let’s just go eat”.
Jesse : “Uhmm…okay”.

No plan B. Uh-oh.

The new situation : As they walk downtown, Jesse tries to convince Pam to go to a romantic restaurant. She wants to go to Elephant Castle.

Jesse : “Maybe you want to try somewhere more romantic?”
Pam : “Not tonight, hun”.

No plan C. Double Uh-oh.

The new new situation
: They are seated beside a table of drunk, loud people. Not so romantic.

At home, ring still in his pocket, Jesse doesn’t know what to do. The plan has long since failed and Pam heads to the bathroom to get ready for bed. His palms start to sweat. His mouth goes dry. He starts to shake. Violently.

Jesse to himself : “You can do this. Just march in there, take her hand and ask her to marry you. You can do it big guy, let’s go”.

The final situation
: Jesse goes to the bathroom door and stands outside. Waiting. He takes the ring out, opens the box and waits for her to swing open the door and then sweep her off her feet. Here it comes, the door opens. His blushing bride to be is standing there….with her pants around her ankles….

Maybe not as planned, but he’d gotten this far and can’t stop now. Jesse tells her that he loves her, that he tried to be romantic, but that it just didn’t happen. Realizing that her pants are still around her ankles, Pam tries to compose herself, but Jesse said, “It’s perfect this way”. He puts the ring on her finger, she smiles and says yes. And it didn’t matter that it wasn’t exactly how Jesse planned for it to happen. It was perfect just the way it was.

June 26, 2009 - 8:59 am

cindy - what a fabulous story! Ok…… my faves for this session are definitely the closeup of Jesse’s delicous bald head (O: with Pam nuzzling the side of his head. And the 10th one down with their legs intertwined and the foucs on just the legs. Beautiful job Ewan and Bri! You’re the best.

June 26, 2009 - 3:02 am

Marissa Rodriguez - I looooved reading their story! Totally funny but romantic in it’s own way. So much emotion in these photos, amazing!

Cheryl - As Mother of the groom I have to say (unbiased of course) that these are the best damn pics of two beautiful people that I have ever seen. Unlike my brother I do have tears in my eyes, both from laughing at the story and the awesome way in which your deep love for each other is portrayed. Kudos kids. Love ya!!!

June 25, 2009 - 10:30 pm

June 25, 2009 - 2:30 pm

Great pics, i guess i’ll let you get away with what you’re doing in the pictures now :)

June 25, 2009 - 2:03 pm

Michelle - That is one of my favorite proposal stories EVER! Once you’re married the pants around the ankles-standing in the bathroom scenario does play out more than expected… might as well start there! ;)
