THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE BLOG (14) – OUR LIFE…

What a week! Birthdays, rain storms and 3 weddings. We’ve been busy! Busy, but just about a perfect week…

1. When Ewan was a little kid his dad told him that if he picked the dandelions in the front yard, that he would earn 1 penny per flower. I told this story to Rachel, not expecting her to comprehend what it meant. I was sooo mistaken. She ran into the garden, grabbed one of the flower pots and turned it on it’s head, dumping the dirt everywhere. Then she ran around the yard collecting stones and pebbles and filling her pail. With a huge smile on her face, she brought the bucket back to me and all she said was, ‘penny’. (The good).

2. You’d think we’d have learned our lesson from that about how perceptive she is. Wrong. Earlier in the week Ewan walked behind me and slapped my butt and said, “hey sexy”. I bet you can’t guess how quickly my jaw hit the floor when Rachel later whacked my butt and said, ‘hey sexy mommy’. (The very very bad).

3. I am so overwhelmed with the love, emails, phone calls and flowers that I received from so many wonderful people on my birthday. The world continually amazes me with how much love and generousity there is around us. Thank you for making me feel so loved :) (The very very good).

4. Ewan took me out for lunch on my birthday and we went to a cute little Italian place downtown. As I was coming back from the bathroom, I noticed two servers mopping up the floor around our table. Ewan had accidentally knocked his drink on the floor and the servers were trying to clean it up before I got back. They thought we were on a first date (because really, only Ewan wears a suit to lunch). As I came around the corner, I heard one of the girls say “You’re sweet. Does she make you nervous?” And Ewan saying back, “Even after 5 years”. (The sweetly good).

5. Are you looking for something different than the normal wedding blog? Rock n Roll Bride has awesome, unique and original weddings and has lots and lots of pictures with ideas to check out. I know you’ll love it! Honest. (The blog).

6. Seriously go here….or here….whatever you’d like. But go! (The blog).

7. Some blog finds – I’m in LOVE with this headpiece that I found on etsy. The designer also has a vintage pearl and rhinestone necklace that I am secretly hoping one of our brides will wear. If not, I might have to buy it for myself just to wear around the house :) (The blog).

Happy Sunday!

Amanda and Justin - HILARIOUS about Rachel and the bucket of stones. She must have been so proud LOL. That etsy designer is awesome. I was originally going to use blue as my bridesmaids colour and that hair pin would’ve worked perfectly to compliment them. Thanks for sharing.

BETH AND JASON – THE DAY…(photos by ewan)

As they shuffled through customs, he broke into a sweat. He panicked. They were definitely going to find the ring stashed in his bag and his whole plan would be foiled. His palms became sweaty, his voice hoarse and he was certain that the entire world knew about the treasure stashed safely between his socks and map of Paris.

After making it through customs unscathed, Jason insisted that he didn’t want to put his carry-on bag in the overhead compartment. It would be safer with him. Wedged tightly between his legs and the seat in front of him. It didn’t matter that he was 6′3 or that he was slowly losing circulation in his toes from the heavy bag. There was no way he was going to let it out of his site. And eventually when he no longer had a choice, he choked with panic anytime someone else went up there.

Walking the streets of Paris for two days, Beth had no clue that Jason had such an important question to ask. Or that he was carrying a diamond ring in his pocket waiting for just the right moment. At 10pm on Sunday evening, they sat down to dinner at the perfect restaurant. With dozens of tables, it seemed bad luck that the table right beside them ordered one coffee after another and were in no hurry to leave. After a lengthy meal and the perfect dessert, they were finally the only ones left in the restaurant. Alone, Jason leaned in close and asked Beth what she was doing for the next sixty years or so….

Beth and Jason, your story makes my heart skip a beat. I love that Jason carried the ring around waiting for the last possible, perfect moment. You two are about as sweet as it gets and I don’t know if we’ve ever had a bride laugh quite as much as you did on the wedding day. Your love of life was infectious. Thank you so much for including us in your celebration and we hope you enjoyed your honeymoon back to Paris again.

And at least on your way back through customs you no longer had to hide the ring :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIANNA – OUR LIFE…(photos by ewan)

Monday came, we had the whole day planned out. We would hop in the car, drive to my shoot and then off to spend the afternoon together. Brianna picked out outfits, got her hair cut and looked ready to wow the world. But things never turn out the way you plan them. My shoot ran long, traffic was horrible and before we knew it we had to get home to the kids. My romantic day of photographing Brianna for her birthday post disappeared before my eyes, and I was crushed. I couldn’t save it, the clock rang five and the kids were waiting to be hugged and kissed hello.

My million ideas and locations for Brianna turned into one. One spot, a couple of shots and a stressful afternoon of hating the traffic in London. But not all was lost. Here are a few of the photos from part one of Brianna’s birthday shoot. More to come at a later date. And now we have an excuse for Brianna to get all dolled up again and have all of my attention pointed directly at her….

Brianna,
I know that you hate your birthday. That you want me to forget it every year. You have even booked a wedding on your birthday so that I couldn’t throw you a party (Happy Anniversary Dawid and Marcie!). You hate anyone knowing your age, so that is why I have written you 20-something reasons and ways that I love you, instead of 2? reasons why. I hope you enjoy them. I loved writing every one.

20 something reasons and ways that I love you…

1 – I love you in ways that are only imagined, portrayed in the silly movies that I rent for you, even though I would rather do anything than watch them. But I watch them so that I can be there when you cry and laugh and grab my arm pulling me closer into you.
2 – I love you because books are one of your most treasured things in the world. You wear them out each time you read them, telling your own story: I was here, I read you book and I leave my mark on you so that you will forever know that you were loved.
3 – I love you because songs remind me of you and all of the times in our life…
“Without you
All my teeth fall out
I’m decapitated
So the phone seems useless too
Without you
I’m wondering who to give my heart to?
Cos it’s alone and it’s not beating”
4 – I love you because for Rachel and Sarah Elizabeth, the sun rises and sets around you.
5 – I love the way that every morning when I wake up, I roll over, give you a little nudge and even half asleep you know to roll over and back into me. This is our time, so that we can spoon before the alarm goes off and the world interrupts our love.
6 – I love the way you have mastered potatoes. Your potato soup, (I know Derek will kill me for saying this) is the best soup I have ever eaten. And don’t even get me started on your mashed potatoes. I have tried, put all of the same ingredients in, but yours, yours are why mouths were created.
7 – I love you because you protect me from myself. You never complain that I talk to you all night in my sleep. That you have to go and find me in the middle of the night standing in the middle of the living room or in the fridge trying to find my shoes. You save me from my sleep walking.
8 – I love you because without you there is no Last Forty Percent.
9 – I love you because you are scared of the dark. You make me turn on the lights anywhere that we are walking in the house and get really, really quiet, letting out the softest little “no” whenever I turn those lights off and leave you standing there in the middle of the stairs.
10 – I love the way you are a good woman. A good woman in every way. Every man needs a good woman and without you, I would be nothing.
11- I love you because you stood behind me when no one else would. You “forced” me to start the business and told me that we could do it. You believed when I didn’t. You saw what I couldn’t. You knew what I didn’t. You are why we are where we are today.
12 – I love the way you are so easy to love. I am hard to love, I know this about me, but you make it so easy to love you. Everyone that meets you loves you right away. They gravitate to you and you love them back just the same.
13 – I love you because you are smarter than me. No explanation needed, you already understand.
14 – I love you because you love me. A friend once asked you what you saw in me to fall in love with me (maybe not such a friend, haha). You answered that you could see through the gruffness. Thank you for seeing past the rough and making me smooth.
15 – I love the way that small things make you so happy. New bed sheets right out of the dryer, an afternoon cuddle when the rain is falling, hundreds of candles giving the only light in the house, falling asleep in Rachel’s bed with her in your arms. You never ask for anything. Your love for everything in our life is effortless.
16 – I love you because you never say no to slow dancing with me in the kitchen when our song comes on.
17 – I love the way you can never pop the micro-waved popcorn right. That it always gets burned and you always have to ask me to do it over for you.
18 – I love that you love my family just as much as I do. That they are not your “in-laws”, they are your family too. That you wear my grandfather’s old house coat because it reminds you of him.
19 – I love you the way the flower loves the sun and rain. I love you the way the polar bear loves the snow. I love you the way Rachel loves the swings. I love you the way that no one else can. With quiet devotion to all of your perfections and imperfections.
20 – I love you because you are you. Never anyone else, never trying, just you, Brianna. I love you, forever. Until we are 90 and 92 and for all of our lives to come.

Happy Birthday Brianna! Love Ewan, Rachel and Sarah Elizabeth

HANNAH AND GAVIN – THE QUESTION…(photos by ewan)

It was simple. No balloons and streamers. No jumbo screens at a ball game. No bending on one knee in the middle of a crowded restaurant. No frills. It was simple. It was perfect. Just the way she wanted it.

Even from the beginning, they knew that they were where they belonged. It just fit. They could talk for hours, or sit in comfortable silence. Either way felt right.

In love with her little quirks, he was patient, kind and funny. She was beautiful, thoughtful and accepted his quirks too. It was a perfect fit. Just the way she had always wanted it. And even though they’d always known, after 17 years it was time to make it official….

Hannah and Gavin, it’s a rare find to meet that person who accepts you 100% with no questions. To accept that you set your coffee mug on the table without a coaster. That you always forget to unplug the toaster or that you choose to wear the pair of socks with holes in them, even though you have 37 other perfect pairs in the drawer. It’s beautiful to see that you’ve found this kind of love and we hope that you’ll hold onto it tightly forever…

Hannah is the awesomely talented Food and Beverage manager at The Windermere Manor. We always LOVE working with her because she is just as excited as the bride for every single wedding. Hannah and Gavin, we can’t wait to be a part of your wedding day and witness your quiet, genuine love again. You are beautiful people inside and out and are so much fun to work with. Only a few weeks left!
