LIZ AND COREY – THE DAY AFTER…(photos by ewan)

As she flopped on the bed, her shoes fell to the floor. The day was over. They had said their vows. They had danced their first dance as husband and wife. And had been surrounded by their closest friends and family. As she flopped on the bed, she smiled as she looked over at her best friend…

A few weeks later when they returned from their honeymoon, Liz went to the closet. As she ran her fingers along her beautiful gown she smiled once again. She knew what today was. The memories of their wedding day came flooding back and she couldn’t help but be excited. Today was their Day After Session. There would be no time constraints today. No extra people around. Just them. And a camera. Just two people celebrating their new marriage. Today was about having fun and doing the things they weren’t able to do on the wedding today. Today they weren’t worried if the beautiful gown got a bit dirty. Or wet. Today she was sharing this amazing experience with her best friend….her new husband…

When Liz and Corey contacted us to photograph their wedding we were unfortunately already booked. But after sharing some thoughts on A Day After session we knew were a perfect fit for each other and were excited to work with them once they got back from their honeymoon. These shoots are so much fun and allow a bride and groom to do things they normally wouldn’t be able to on the wedding day – like go to multiple locations, get a little dirty or walk out into a stream. A Day After shoot is all about having fun! Liz and Corey, we hope you had a blast and we look forward to working together again in the future :)

BREEHAN AND DAN – THE DAY AFTER…(photos by ewan)

When she walked in the door from work all she wanted to do was lay on the couch and sleep. Maybe watch some t.v. Maybe read a book. Maybe eat popcorn and rent a  good movie. No matter what she did that night, she just wanted to relax. When Dan asked her to go out for dinner she wasn’t overly excited about the idea. When he asked again she reminded him that she had to work early the next day. By the third time he asked she humoured him, put on a dress and did her hair. It would just a be a quick dinner and he seemed really excited about it, so along she went.

As they pulled up to a little bistro, Breehan couldn’t help but think how sweet it was that Dan had picked a cute new place for them to try. But when they walked up to the door the sign said ‘closed’. Dan kept on walking, took her by the hand and went inside anyways. There was only one table in the little dining room. The lights were dimmed, candles were lit and music was playing. The staff told them that there was a private function taking place that night, so they could eat, but would have to be out at a certain time. As dish after dish of amazing food came out to them, Breehan could see that Dan was starting to get fidgety. Sweaty. A little bit nervous. Okay, a whole lot nervous. As he got down on one knee, with the candles all around him and the sweet quietness of the empty restaurant, Dan asked Breehan to marry him. To spend their days together as ‘two lives, one path’. And with a ‘yes’ and hugs and tears, she realized that the private function was actually for them. Dan had arranged for all of their closest friends and family to be waiting in the other room to celebrate the special occasion. In that moment, she knew it had been the best decision she ever made not to stay home and rent a bad movie :)

MEGAN AND SEAN – THE DAY AFTER… (photos by ewan)

I’m a neurotic recycler. It hurts me in my green-zone when people throw out recyclable items. Bottles, cans, boxes – you name it, I recycle it. I’m even dorky enough to bring a bottle home with me from the park if there isn’t recycling there. I’m pretty sure our neighbours think I’m neurotic.

Megan may have missed her engagement all together, if she wasn’t a recylcer too. On a family vacation to Hawaii, Sean had the entire engagement planned. The family was in on the ‘plan’ from the beginning. As they spent the day driving around looking for the ‘perfect beach’, they were bubbling over with excitement. After finally spreading out their blankets, Megan headed for the water. Little did she know that Sean had secretly stashed a beautiful old bottle in his bag and strategically placed it beside her beach mat. Tucked inside the bottle was a note waiting with a very important question.

After coming up from the water multiple times, Megan did everything but go back to her towel. No matter what Sean tried, she seemed to go everywhere but there. “You should go sit on your own mat” her mom pushed. “Look, there’s something over by your towel” her brother in law insisted. But she was too busy enjoying the sun to worry about if a crab was loitering near her seat. She even dragged her beach mat over the bottle at one point to move, not even noticing that it was there. Finally, after not understanding why everyone was so obsessed with what was happening near her towel, she looked and said, “It’s just a bottle!” But her brother in law insisted that maybe she should pick it up and take it home with her. Enter Megan’s green-loving heart. Being earth friendly, she finally picked up the bottle and noticed a note inside. She was super excited, thinking it was a child’s school project and pulled out the note to read it out loud to her family. But as she started to read the note, she realized it was from Sean and they were suddenly the only two left on the beach. Sean was already down on one knee and had champagne ready to celebrate.

Megan and Sean were our winners of the $10,000 dream wedding giveaway. Being that they loved the tropics, they couldn’t think of anywhere better to get married than the Dominican Republic. We couldn’t wait to do a Day After Session with them as soon as they returned and headed out to their farm for some fun. The goats were anxious to join in the fun too and insisted that the flower in Megan’s hair was actually intended as their lunch. Megan and Sean, congratulations on winning the contest and we had so much fun doing this session with you! :)

ADRIENNE AND MIKE – THE DAY AFTER…

A Bridal Gown Art Shoot is when a couple gets dressed up again after their wedding and go somewhere that they normally wouldn’t for photos. Adrienne and Mike are the first “The Day After” post that we’re putting up, but there will be more coming in the New Year. This is a great way to capture those shots that you wouldn’t be brave enough to do on your wedding day and have something a little bit different.
