She had a strict policy. Rachael was adamant that she would never move in with a guy unless there was a commitment. Unless there was a ring on her finger. And unless it was forever. Chuck, on the other hand, couldn’t wait to fall asleep every night next to Rachael. Wake up every morning with his arms wrapped around her. To reach over and pull her closer. And to see the first smile of the day break across her face. They both knew they loved each other. Madly. Deeply. Purely. Rachael was just an old fashioned girl.

Chuck knew that he wanted to marry her. And couldn’t imagine spending a single day without her. Rachael knew that she was ready to move in with Chuck, but kept insisting that she always wanted to wait until she was engaged. One day Chuck looked at Rachael and said : “just jump in, I’ll catch you” and before she knew it they were packing their bags and moving in together. Meanwhile, this was all part of Chuck’s big plan.

So the big moving day came. And so did all of Chuck’s over-sized furniture. Needing to find space for all of the big couches and chairs, they set out to painting the basement : the man-room. Rachael tossed a load of laundry in the washing machine quickly and came back to painting. Chuck started saying the sweetest things she’d ever heard. The kind of things that make a girl blush. And feel full of butterflies inside. Just as Chuck was about to ask the important question, the washing machine started to shake. And rock. And shooting water everywhere. Rachael tried to stop it, but it was too late. Covered in paint, bubbles and dirty water, Rachael went back to where Chuck was standing. She started to say something about ‘this is so us’ and just started laughing. Chuck picked up right where he left off and told the painted/bubbly/dirty mess of his girlfriend that he couldn’t live without her. That he didn’t want to live together unless they were engaged either.  And asked Rachael to marry him.

She had a strict policy. Rachael wasn’t going to live with someone until she was engaged. Now there, amongst the bubbles, the over-sized furniture and the paint, Chuck made her wish come true. Instead of moving in together as boyfriend and girlfriend, they were moving in together engaged. And next month they’ll get to wake up together in their home as even more than that. As husband and wife.
